A few weeks ago, a dispute between Neymar and Dorival Junior saw the ex-Santos coach sacked. Now Neymar’s name has been excluded from Brazil’s squad for October friendlies.
The hot-tempered teenager will not take part in any of the Seleçao’s October friendly matches. 18-year-old Neymar, who shamelessly yelled at his former Santos manager during a match over a penalty kick decision, was dropped by Carlos Dunga’s successor Mano Menezes. In a news conference, the manager explained his decision to omit the young sensational player:

“I want to clarify things about our thinking in the way we work. We’ve always said that players receive call-ups based on their performances on the pitch.

“As for Neymar, he has been struggling a bit to find his best form recently, and he has had some problems off the pitch. We will leave these problems outside the Seleçao at this moment.

“We feel like we’re sending a clear message by doing that. Everyone should know what is going on in our minds. But we are not trying to be extra harsh on someone.

“However, the very good player, the brilliant football he used to showcase recently… if these things becomes the norm again, the rule explains that he will then get back into the Brazilian team.”

Neymar scored on his debut for Brazil as the Seleçao defeated the USA 2-0 in an international club friendly back in August 2010. The Santos striker will have to wait before experiencing more caps for Brazil at the senior level.

A Seleçao will face Ukraine on October 11. First tough, they’ll clash against Iran on Thursday in an international friendly match which is set to receive a lot of attention from the media.
