Recent reports have been circulating (as per The Sun) claiming that Jose Mourinho is confident that he’ll be the new Manchester United boss next season, having informed his friends despite remaining tight-lipped in front of the media.
However, the same British tabloid also reported that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is also in the running to replace Louis Van Gaal should the Red Devils sack the Dutchman at the end of this campaign.
With the 20-time English Premier League champions’ eyes on the Argentine tactician, Spurs’ Labour MP David Lammy claims that legendary Scottish manager Sir Alex Ferguson holds Pochettino as “the best manager in the English Premier League”.
Speaking on The Spurs Show podcast, David said: “I'm going to let you into a secret.
“About six weeks ago, I sat next to Sir Alex Ferguson at a dinner in support of grassroots football abroad. He said to me, ‘I think you guys have got the best manager in the Premier League’”.
Having made a name for himself in the English top-flight whilst at Southampton,Pochettino has been a revelation at White Hart Line despite a rocky start, as he has helped introduce several young talents to the starting eleven such as Harry Kane and Dele Alii.
This season, Tottenham have been in excellent, as the north London giants’ fine form has seen them climb above Manchester City and neighbors Arsenal in the standings, as they sit 2nd in the table, five points behind leaders Leicester City.
However, with Jose Mourinho’s sacking from Chelsea having occurred over 7 weeks back, Sir Alex Ferguson’s statement to Lammy – if concrete – may not have been as important as the eye meets, having been unemployed and no longer a Premier League manager.
