Benfica have won their third consecutive Primeira Liga title after beating Nacional 4-1 on Sunday. Rui Vitoria’s men also set a new record of gathering 88 points from 34 matches. This was also their 35th Primeira Liga title in their history.

Their hitman Nicolas Gaitain netted twice, and Jonas and Pizzi added one each to give the Eagles he much needed win. This was their 13th consecutive league win. Thousands of the club’s fans gathered in the streets of Lisbon to celebrate the latest win.

On the other hand, their bitter rivals Sporting also stood a chance of winning the title, but Benfica’s win kicked them out of the race. Jorge Jesus’ men finished second with 86 points, two behind the league leaders. FC Porto finished third with 73 points, while Braga sealed the fourth spot with 58.
