The original date had to be changed since Real Madrid will be playing in the Club World Cup for the second winter in a row.

If fans were anticipating a new clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona, Los Blancos' commitments will give them quite a Christmas present.

La Liga president Javier Tebas admitted in an interview that due to Los Blancos' participation in the 2017 Club World Cup, the game between the two most popular teams in Spain will have to be re-scheduled from its original date, set for December 20. In order to allow Zidane's men to recover from their trip to the United Arab Emirates, the game will be played on December 23.

Last season, Real Madrid had to postpone their Week 17 clash against Valencia because of the same reasons. Eventually, Zidane's me would go on to lose that clash 2-1, which made the title race closer between them and Los Blaugranas.
