Real Madrid haven’t agreed any deal with Benfica’s Fabio Coentrao, agent Jorge Mendes claims. However, it has been confirmed that Los Blancos are extremely interested in a transfer for the player.
According to Goal.com, it was reported by the Daily Record on Wednesday that Real Madrid and Fabio Coentrao had agreed a deal. This piece of transfer news suggested that the defender could soon be seen under a Real Madrid jersey as an answer to unimpressive left-back Marcelo.

But this is nothing but rumours, Jorge Mendes believes. Speaking to Italian media Calciomercatonews, the agent – who is also Jose Mourinho’s agent – declared:

“It’s just a speculation from the media. I can assure that there’s no agreement with Real Madrid.

“Yes, Real Madrid’s interest [in a transfer for Fabio Coentrao] is very strong. However, it’s the same like other teams.”

Last summer, Fabio Coentrao was heavily linked with a big-money move to German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich. The young defender is the envy of many coaches, but Benfica will look to keep him at their club as he has 5 years left on his contract.
