Real Madrid is yet to agree a major signing in the summer transfer window and has been linked with a raid on Chelsea. However, the Sun claims Los Blancos has an eye on a Tottenham ace instead.
According to the British tabloid, that man is none other than Hugo Lloris, the goalkeeper who recently won the World Cup with France. The 31-year-old, despite a blunder in the final that gifted Mandzukic with a goal, was a solid figure and has thus attracted interest from the Spanish giant.
Furthermore, the 31-year-old impressed Florentino Perez's side when he crossed paths with Los Merengues in the Champions League group stage last season. One thing working in Real Madrid's favor is Lloris' openness to a move to Spain but he is not ready to force a north London exit.
The Spanish Primera Division heavyweight is ready to offer $79m for the former Lyon custodian as their search for an upgrade on Navas continues. David De Gea is their favorite choice but also the least likely after the Spaniard committed his future to Man United.
The Sun doesn't clarify whether Lloris is ahead of Thibaut Courtois, another shot-stopper linked with a Bernabeu move, on their wish list. The Chelsea goalkeeper is rated cheaper at $66m, is also younger, and knows La Liga well having enjoyed a successful loan spell with Atletico and would thus appear to be the better option.
Nonetheless, Courtois will likely remain a target for Real Madrid given that there are a number of obstacles standing in the way of signing Lloris, namely Daniel Levy. The Tottenham chairman has a history of being a tough man to negotiate and would demand a world-record fee similar to what Liverpool paid for Alisson were he to entertain the idea of selling the World Cup winner.
