Paul Pogba seems to be tired of carrying all the weight of Manchester United's failures, and speaking on the new LifeTimes podcast, he was sure to voice his feelings in a revealing interview.
The French footballer did not hold back when asked about the constant criticism from fans, experts, and even from former boss Jose Mourinho. According to the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, that criticism comes from people who judge him for the amount of cash Manchester United paid for his services three years ago.
"Because it was the biggest transfer in history at the time, you get judged differently. They expect more from you because of the price tag. A good game would be a normal game. A top game would be a good game," Pogba said.
Pogba backed his words by naming how his numbers improved season after season, and how Manchester United fans tend to overlook that fact.
"The first year we won trophies — we won three trophies. The second year we arrived second and this year we didn't win. But what I keep is just improving on my statistics, my individual stats. They have improved, so I guess I'm glad with that, although obviously that's not enough, (but) To see the improvement, that makes me proud as well, that makes me happy," the French star added.
Pogba returned to the subject about his transfer, one that became a world record at the time. According to the French midfielder, things changed from Day One due to that situation.
"I knew there would be a big impact. But I didn't know it would go so negative. When I signed, I wasn't used to seeing so many negative comments. It was a big change. I was surprised. I didn't know a price tag would change so much for people," Pogba analyzed.
"Maybe they think I have the money. It's not me - I don't have the money. I don't know (the reason for the criticism). I wish I knew so I could help them get the answer," Pogba added.
The fact that Pogba became the only player not from either Manchester City or Liverpool to be included in the PFA's Team of the Season speaks volumes, according to the footballer. Pogba feels that being judged by his peers in such a way should make fans think twice before criticizing his performance.
"Obviously I was pleased. Judging by the players is different than judging by the fans or journalists, so I was very glad to see that, of course," Pogba concluded.
The French footballer is expected to complete another high-profile transfer this summer, as Real Madrid has shown interest in his services for quite some time at Zinedine Zidane's request. While the Red Devils' hierarchy has stated that the player is not for sale, the summer transfer window might have a few surprises in store for fans of both teams.
