The Special One was overly impressed by the performance he witnessed.

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has singled out summer signing Harry Maguire for plaudits after the defender impressed in the Red Devils' season opener against Chelsea. An astounding performance by the ex-Leicester City centre back and his teammates resulted in a emphatic 4-0 victory for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side at home on Sunday.

Harry Maguire arrived at Manchester United as one of three players signed by the club this summer and his transfer is one that has been spoken about alot considering it broke the world-record fee paid for a defender in the processes. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old Englishman has gone a mile to silent talks about his 85 million-pound price tag by staging a man-of-the-match worthy performance against Chelsea in his Old Trafford debut.

Per the statistics from the game, Maguire won all seven aerial duels he was involved in, managed an 86 percent pass accuracy alongside seven clearances, four interceptions, two blocks and committed no foul to end the day with a clean sheet. This, as a result, earned him a pat on the back by ex-United manager Jose Mourinho who asked for the player's signing during his spell at Old Trafford.

Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sport, the Portuguese manager declared: "I think he [Maguire] fully deserved Man of the Match.

"I think he was solid like a rock and as we know it is very important for a team to have that.

"Not just the tactical knowledge but that personality, that sense of reading the game, being alert all the time, the confidence to play. He was fantastic, absolutely deserved.

"A team can be very dangerous in attack but if you feel that a defensive mistake is just around the corner, you don't play as well.

"When you can feel that there is something that really allows you to play, you are much more confident," he added.

"[Victor] Lindelof can be a very good player and with Maguire I think they can be a very good couple."
