The Three Lions boss has barred the Manchester United defender from featuring in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.

England boss Gareth Southgate has dropped Manchester United defender Harry Maguire from his UEFA Nations League squad hours after featuring the center back on the list. The decision comes after the 27-year-old was found guilty of three offences on the Greek island of Syros.

Maguire has dominated headlines since Thursday after being arrested alongside his brother and a friend for their involvement in a brawl with the local police while on holiday in Mykonos. The said altercation broke out over claims that his sister was injected with a suspected "rape drug".

Despite the player and his legal representatives asking the court to postpone proceedings over the lack of time to prepare a proper defence, the trial went ahead as scheduled on Tuesday in the absence of all three defendants - Harry Maguire, his brother Joe and their friend Christopher Sharman. The trio was subsequently found guilty of three offences including aggravated assault, attempted bribery and resisting arrest. As a first time offenders, they was charged with a suspended sentence of two months and 10 days.

With Maguire and his team waiting to appeal the judge's verdict, the English center back has been omitted from the squad to face Iceland and Denmark next month. According to Gareth Southgate, he had been in touch with the former Leicester defender and he was dropped "in the best interests of all parties".

"Harry regrets the fact he has brought that sort of focus and attention to the team - he apologised for that - but also has his own side of the story," he said in the presser when he named his squad for the upcoming games.

"In these instances, I think you can only make decisions on facts that you're aware of. Clearly if facts change further down the line or information changes, then I have to review that decision."

"As I said earlier today, I reserved the right to review the situation.

"Having spoken to Manchester United and the player, I have made this decision in the best interests of all parties and with consideration of the impact on our preparations for next week."
