The Merseyside giants have lost another key player to injury with their UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid being just three weeks away.

Liverpool can't seem to catch a break!

Not only have the Merseyside giants been knocked out of the FA Cup, going 2-1 down in the fourth round away to Brighton on Sunday, but the Premier League giants have also lost another key player to injury.

That man is none other than Ibrahima Konate, one of the best young center-backs in world football. This frustrating update was revealed by Paul Joyce of the Times, with the well-known reporter stating that the highly-rated Frenchman suffered a hamstring issue in the Amex Stadium defeat.

As a result, the 23-year-old could be sidelined for up to three weeks, thus ruling him out for a number of crucial fixtures. This means Klopp will not be able to field the former RB Leipzig ace in their upcoming Premier League showdowns with Wolves, Everton, and Newcastle.

And to make things worse, Konate is now also a doubt for the 1st leg round of 16 showdown with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. With Virgil van Dijk already being sidelined, this comes as a huge blow to Liverpool.

Salah and Co. are currently ninth in the table and trail fourth-placed Manchester United by a whopping 10 points. However, with the Reds boasting a game in hand, there was the hope of mounting a late top-four push but the loss of Konate complicates that.

While the Frenchman was part of the lineup that lost 3-0 and 2-1 to Brighton in the span of two weeks, he was one of the better performers for Klopp's struggling side — however, Ibrahima was fortunate not to get sent off in the FA Cup defeat.

Next up for the Reds is a Premier League trip to Wolves in an attempt to end their three-game winless streak in this competition. After that is an interesting Merseyside Derby encounter with Everton led by the newly-appointed Sean Dyche.
