The Norwegian striker has been a huge success for the Citizens, but it seems that his exit from Borussia Dortmund left a lot of dry eyes in Germany

The time has come for Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund to lock horns in their first UEFA Champions League clash of the season, but this time, fans will have one more reason to watch the game, as Erling Haaland is set to face his former teammates in a controversial game.

Given that Borussia Dortmund did not oppose to Haaland's transfer to Manchester City, there was a belief of a good relationship between both parties. Today, an interview by Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl eliminated that notion, as his views on Haaland's departure have given fans and experts quite a different picture of what went down.

Speaking to Sport Bild, the team's exec did not hold back when discussing Haaland's exit. According to Kehl, the Norwegian's presence in the team's locker room had become a little bit toxic, which was the main reason for the club to part ways with the footballer.

"As much as we appreciated Erling and his success with our jersey, in the end the matter became a bit of a drag for the guys in the locker room and for the club. In general, for his entourage, it was all about him. The time to let him go was the proper one for our club and for Manchester City," Kehl stated.

The exec went on to reveal how Haaland's indecision to make up his mind about his future had a negative effect on the team's plans for this season, while also going on further about how life without the player has been good to the black and yellow side.

"I would have loved to have a certainty of what he was going to do a bit earlier, because it was crucial to define the way we would go. Without him, we have a chance to trust the rest of our players, and the fact that our first ten goals of the season were scored by ten different players is a testament to that," Kehl concluded.

Haaland and Manchester City will welcome Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening in Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League. After being blasted by Kehl in this interview, we can only imagine how eager the footballer will be to face his former side.
