About Globo
Rede Globo, or most known as Globo, is a Brazilian free-to-air television channel. It is owned and operated by Grupo Globo, one of the largest media groups in the world. The channel was launched on April 26, 1965 and is often referred to as the most popular television channel in Brazil. Globo owns five television stations, over 110 affiliates in Brazil, and two more international networks. The channel covers almost 100% of the Brazilian territory with its broadcasts.
Over the years, Globo has been considered a general entertainment channel, with news, reality shows, movies, TV series, educational programs, sports, and variety shows being included in its programming. Added to those topics, the channel’s widely popular soap operas have been the cornerstone of this channel’s programming, with some of those “novelas” being sold to many countries in the world.
Speaking about sports, Globo has given fans lots to talk about with their broadcasting rights. Over the years, the channel has aired quite a few football matches, along with other disciplines such as volleyball, futsal, Formula One racing, and coverage for the summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games.
Globo’s football coverage has included both domestic and international games. Domestic competitions aired by this channel over the years have included the Campeonato Brasileiro A (also known as Brasileirao), the Campeonato Braileiro B, the Copa Continental do Brasil, and state championships. International football coverage has included games for the Copa Libertadores, Copa América matches, UEFA Euro games, FIFA Confederations Cup clashes, and in-depth coverage of several FIFA World Cup editions.
Rede Globo started its broadcasts with a Standard Definition feed. Nevertheless, the channel introduced its first HD broadcast on July 11, 2009. Recently, the channel added an enhanced 4K HD feed, giving users more options to watch the content aired by the network.
